Friends of Blue Hole, a 501(c)(3) organization, was created to promote, protect, preserve and develop the Blue Hole Regional Park and given the task of assisting the City of Wimberley with raising additional funding for this important project. To date, the Blue Hole Regional park project has been awarded $1.9 million from the National Park Service Land and Water Conservation Fund administered through Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, $2.7 million from Hays County Parks and Open Space bond fund, an additional $500,000 grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife, $200,000 from the Lower Colorado River Authority, and $160,000 from the Burdine Johnson Foundation. Additionally, $873,118 in private donations and pledges has been raised from individuals interested in preserving this Texas treasure for public use.
